Young Artist Instrumental Competition
The Orchestra of Northern New York Kenneth Andrews, Music Director Presents
The Third Annual James and Katherine Andrews Young Artist Instrumental Competition
Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall, Crane School of Music SUNY Potsdam
Prizes:

1st Place: Appearances as soloist in the work performed at the competition with The Orchestra of Northern New York on the March 13th and 14th, 2009 concerts in Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam, as well as the concert on the evening of March 13th in Beaver Falls; $500 prize money, and two complimentary tickets to the March 13th and 14th concerts.

2nd Place: $300 prize money to be awarded at the March 14th concert and two complimentary tickets to the concerts of March 13th and/or 14th.

3rd Place: $150 prize money to be awarded at the March 14th concert and two complimentary tickets to the concerts of March 13th and/or 14th.

Rules and Regulations

1. Contestants must be residents of St. Lawrence, Lewis, Jefferson, Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Warren, or Hamilton Counties.

2. The Competition is open to instrumentalists in grades 9 through 12. This includes Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, Keyboard Percussion, Piano, and Harp.

3. Contestants must be prepared to play a piece or movement from the Competition Repertoire List FROM MEMORY. The length of the work is limited to 15 minutes or one movement. Please Click here for the list.

4. Contestants must provide their own accompanist and must audition in person. No tapes of accompaniments permitted.

5. Contestants must bring one copy of their audition piece (solo part and piano reduction or score) to the auditions.

6. At the discretion of the judges, contestants may be interrupted or subjected to time restrictions.

7. Parents, teachers, and friends are invited and encouraged to attend the Competition.

8. The decision of the judges is final, and the judges reserve the right not to award any level of the prizes.

9. The first place winner must be available for performances with The Orchestra of Northern New York on March 13 & 14, 2009. The audition piece will serve as the performance piece.

10. Second and third prize winners must be present at the March 14th concert to receive prize monies. First Prize winner MUST perform the winning composition on the March 13th (two concerts) and 14th concerts.

11. Entries must be received no later than January 5, 2009. No late entries will be accepted.

B. Non-refundable application fee of $30 made payable to The Orchestra of Northern New York Competition.
