Maggie McKenna
Assistant Concertmaster
Maggie McKenna is the Executive Director of the Frederic Remington Art Museum, a nationally-accredited, world-renowned art museum in Ogdensburg, NY. Since starting late 2023, she has already made waves in the new role, beginning the turnaround process of an organization in turmoil. She is responsible for strategic planning, financial and staff management, community engagement, board development, and fundraising.
In her previous role as the Co-Executive Director of the St. Lawrence County Arts Council (SLC Arts), she initiated a bright future for the organization by inventing the North Country Arts Festival and creating a new arts center in downtown Potsdam.
Maggie holds an MBA from Clarkson University and a Bachelor’s in Violin Performance and Mathematics from The Crane School of Music and SUNY Potsdam. She has served as the executive director of the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and in other program management roles at the Potsdam Public Library and Traditional Arts of Upstate New York. Maggie has also held roles in sales, marketing, and technical support. She is an enthusiastic planner and communicator and connector.
Maggie serves on the board of ArtsNYS, the St Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, and the North Country Women's Leadership Initiative, and she recently served on the board of the Potsdam Food Co-op and as an elected trustee for the Village of Potsdam. She has been a regular member of the first violin section in the Orchestra of Northern New York since her undergraduate years at Crane, and she is the first violinist in the Carriage House Quartet based in Potsdam, NY.
Maggie has been based in Potsdam, NY, along the northern border of New York State since 2014. She lives with her husband, Matt, their two young children, Charlotte and Penny, and their two small dogs, Tristan and Karma. She enjoys playing violin and piano, tending her indoor plant jungle, participating in community events, and engaging with friends and family.
