In Dreams, Duets, and Delights, sopranos Colleen Skull and Lorraine Yaros Sullivan join forces with pianist Risa Okina for an evening that travels from the shimmering beauty of opera to the charm of Broadway, and contemporary gems. Come, let your eyes and ears delight in musical offerings by Dvořák, Mozart, Rossini, Whitacre, and Laufey up close in an intimate chamber setting.
Colleen Skull (soprano) Praised for her lush, robust tone, and commanding stage presence, soprano, Colleen Skull has performed with leading opera companies and orchestras including the Canadian Opera Company, Pacific Opera Victoria, Manitoba Opera, Esprit Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Northern New York, among others. She has debuted more than 30 operatic roles, including the title roles in Ariadne auf Naxos, La Voix humaine, and Jenůfa. Other notable roles include Wellgunde in Götterdämmerung, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Jocasta in Oedipus Rex, and Marina in Boris Godunov. As a frequent soloist of orchestral works, she was most recently featured as the soloist in Carmina Burana with the Guelph Chamber Choir, and The Here and Now by Theofanidis at the LoKo Festival with the Crane Symphony Orchestra. She also appeared in recitals with Civic Morning Musicals (Syracuse) and at the University of Alberta.
A former member of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble, she has received numerous awards including the Metropolitan Opera District Competition prize, a Chalmers Award, and multiple Professional Development Grants from the Canada Council for the Arts. Her media appearances include CBC Radio, CTV, TVO, YTV, Definitely Not the Opera with Sook-Yin Lee, and Breakfast Television.
Dr. Skull holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Toronto and is currently an Associate Professor of Voice at the Crane School of Music.
Lorraine Yaros Sullivan (mezzo-soprano) has performance experience spanning opera, oratorio, chamber music, art song, musical theater, and jazz. Selected opera credits include Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Ottavia in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, which Opera praised as “regal” and “affecting.” She premiered workshop performances of operas by Tom Cipullo, Lori Laitman, and Anthony Davis as part of the Domenic J. Pellicciotti Opera Composition Competition. Her concert and oratorio work in the US and Canada includes a wide range of styles from Bach to Libby Larsen and she is a featured soloist on the Delos recording All the Heart of Me!: The Choral Music of Margaret Ruthven Lang. She was featured in recital at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theatre and gave a series of recitals throughout Taiwan, performing American art song and musical theater selections.
She previously served as Executive Director of the Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar, a boutique young artist program for emerging professional singers and pianists, alongside Artistic Director Stephanie Blythe and Music Director, Alan Louis Smith. She is currently Associate Professor of Voice at The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
